NuEnergy.ai delivering AI Governance Education and Trust Framework Services to Government of Canada
Ottawa (July 29, 2020) – Today, NuEnergy.ai announces that it has been selected to deliver Transport Canada’s first educational program to help guide its governance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in technological innovations.
NuEnergy’s AI Governance Program is designed to educate and build awareness within Transport Canada regarding the extensive capabilities and potential risks of implementing Artificial Intelligence. The program will guide Transport Canada in effectively creating the frameworks to manage the use of AI.
The interactive educational program also covers aspects of Canada’s Treasury Board Directive on Automated Decision-Making including the Algorithmic Impact Assessment (AIA) which is designed to assess and mitigate the risks associated with deploying an automated decision system. The program will help identify principles and methodologies for AI Governance that may be applied at Transport Canada.
Niraj Bhargava, CEO of NuEnergy.ai, explains, “The public sector has been utilizing many checks and balances for human trust – it is now more critical than ever to develop guardrails to ensure trust of AI machines. We are pleased to deliver a customized learning program that draws on global and Canadian experience and expertise in AI Governance and the measurement of Trust, so that Transport Canada can better serve the needs of Canadians.”
Joe Oliver, Former Chief Information Officer/Assistant Commissioner at Royal Canadian Mounted Police adds: “I see parallels between Transport Canada’s need for safe surveillance and how the public views law enforcement’s use of AI to keep Canadians safe. Public trust is fragile and the public has legitimate concerns about use of technology. What we don’t want is a black box approach that doesn’t tell us how that algorithm made the decision. Nonetheless, prohibiting use of advanced technologies is not the answer. The conversation needs to be about how to effectively govern various departments’ use of AI and surveillance technologies. Solutions that enhance accountability, transparency and trust are much needed.”
Bhargava continues, “The time is now. AI innovations are accelerating forward with great promise to solve some of transportation’s biggest needs. However,” he adds, “If you can’t measure AI, you can’t manage it.”
As a Canadian leader in AI Governance, and the only company on the Government of Canada AI Source list with its sole focus on the Governance of AI, NuEnergy.ai continues to enhance its services by adding the AI Governance Education Seminar to its portfolio of offerings, that also includes AI Governance Framework co-creation and transparent and scalable measurement software including its Machine and Citizen Trust Index. The AI Governance Education Seminar helps organizations build their internal knowledge and competencies in areas that are essential to mitigate risk to citizens, and to help maintain public trust.
